The Super Whites The ordinary life of a Super Mum

The Super Whites
Renovations – Day 4 – Deck and outside the house.

I honestly don’t know what I was thinking. I suppose I was imagining a kitchen renovation to be a little like taking out an old lego kitchen and inserting a new one. I definitely wasn’t thinking that we might have to take off most of the back of the house, or that it would all involve quite so much dirt, mess and rubble. Three skip bins to be exact.

Our lovely builder did such a good job of reassuring me that it wasn’t a big job and that there weren’t going to be any problems we encountered that he couldn’t fix that I was lulled into a false sense of security! This was rapidly erased when they started pulling up the floor in the kitchen/dining room! Black dust everywhere, constant banging, power tools going.

They have been working non-stop this week and have accomplished so much.

Taking the deck down was a pretty easy job, it really was almost completely rotten and a few goes with the powersaw and various pieces just came apart.

Knocking down the concrete wall just outside the rumpus room sliding door took a little longer and made a huge mess.

Pulling up the floor inside was a lot easier than we were expecting and they just chucked the mess straight out the door onto the bricks!

We have been so impressed with the way our builder and his tradies work, every afternoon the site is cleared and swept up and everything packed away.

I know that choosing the right person for the job can make this whole process so much easier and less stressful. That’s not to say that it hasn’t been hugely stressful, but that’s another post for another day!

In the meantime more pics coming soon as we progress from the deck to the back of the house to the space for the new door.
