The Super Whites The ordinary life of a Super Mum

The Super Whites
Rain, rain go away, come again another day
It feels like it has been raining FOREVER. Its rained almost constantly this week, heavy showers followed by periods of drizzle and then a massive thunderstorm complete with thunder and scary cracks of lightning. I wake up in the middle of the night and its raining, we get up in the morning, its raining. At night I turn the tv up because I can’t hear it over the dramatic downpour.
Its hard to complain about rain when living in Australia. We live in an almost permanent state of desperate drought so any rain is gratefully received, however it does have a big impact on our day-to-day living. The spare room is overhung with laundry drying on every surface and the worst part about ongoing rain at this time of year is the horrible humidity it brings with it. The moist air is hot and wet and everything feels damp and warm. The washing steams quietly and when I run the dryer to try and get rid of some of the piles of wet towels, it just sends even more damp air into the house. I feel like if I sat down for long enough I might get mouldy.
Last weekend I went to my boxing class in the park in the sunshine, I stopped to put sunscreen on my nose before starting our workout and then halfway through cursed my preparedness as the lashing rain washed the cream into my stinging eyes. We left after my exercise class and drove up the coast to a BBQ with friends. Even the pouring rain didn’t stop the children from playing on the bouncy castle, in fact the wet made it more fun, who needs swimmers when you can run around in the rain in a pair of knickers!
