The Super Whites The ordinary life of a Super Mum

The Super Whites
Where I have been

and no, it wasn’t sleep training. Sorry for the little white lie, rumour travels fast in cyberspace so I got Ron to publish a post on the day I was travelling!
I think that this last week is the longest I have gone without updating the blog. I had good reason. For three weeks my Dad, sister and I had been hatching a plan to fly me over to South Africa to surprise my Mum on her 60th birthday. Stella and I flew over last Thursday, leaving at 10am and arriving 14 hours later at 4pm on Thursday afternoon. The look on my Mum’s face as she caught sight of me climbing out of Dad’s car will stay with me forever. It was the BEST FEELING in the world to spring such a fantastic surprise on her!

The next few days were spent with family, planning and executing a fabulous birthday party which was held at a gorgeous boutique hotel and enjoying every precious second of our time together.

The weather was perfect Johannesburg highveld winter, crisp, cold mornings, warm middays and sunny afternoons. We spent a lot of time sitting outside on the verandah, talking and catching up.

Stella was the perfect baby, so good in fact that I am going to dedicate a post to how well she travelled and how lucky I am and how rather than being an ordeal, the 14 hour flight there and the 12 hour flight back felt more like a day at the spa than international air travel. (Think about it, I sat down and someone brought me food, took it away, came when I pressed a buzzer and let me watch whatever I wanted on tv!)

It was one of the most special weekends of my life, sad that I couldn’t share it with Ron or Amy who both stayed behind but it more than made up for all the occasions I have missed being faraway and such a treat to travel with my darling Stella.

Happy Birthday Mum, I wish we could do it all over again!

    How absolutely wonderful!!!!

I'm so glad you were able to do that… having lived away from my own family and country for so many years (a long time ago) I understand how precious those visits are.

I LOVE your parents' verandah! And the fact that there is no fence around the pool (obviously not the same laws as we have here!).

What a lovely surprise for your Mum!!! Very clever to get your hubbie to keep posting while you were on your way!! Wish I could have done the same for my parents' 60th birthdays! My Dad's arriving from Ireland on Monday for 2 weeks, can't wait!!!
