The Super Whites The ordinary life of a Super Mum

The Super Whites
Stella is 15 weeks and 4 days
People keep asking me how old Stella is and I say three months but in fact she is closer to four months. I will say it again but I just can’t believe how fast time is flying by. Yesterday was my Mum’s 60th birthday. I wish we could all be there to celebrate with her but we have a wonderful trip to South Africa to look forward to at the end of the year.

Stella is a little all over the place at the moment. She had an upper respiratory infection last weekend and when I took her to the Dr early on Monday morning he advised rest and increased breastfeeds. A week later and I am feeding Stella every three hours day and night and something has to stop before I hit the wall again. Its exhausting waking three times a night to feed and a couple more times to pop a dummy back in or lie awake listening to Stella gurgling and talking to herself on the baby monitor. I think Ron and I are going to start some mild sleep training in the coming week or at least concentrate on Ron doing a dreamfeed at 11ish so I can sleep through from 9pm or so until 3ish. I find I can function so long as I get a chunk of sleep early in the night.

Since Stella laughed for the first time we have only been able to get her to do it again a few times. Although there are many similarities between Stella and Amy as a baby, there are also a lot of differences which are becoming more and more obvious as Stella grows. She is a lot more serious and contemplative. Her eyes, although big and blue, are less wide and open than Amy’s. She smiles but spends most of her time watching the world around her with a grave expression. Its quite a transformation when she does smile as her face lights up and her dimple appears. I am still addicted to the sound of her laugh and have spend a ridiculous amount of time in the last week trying to make her do it. So far I have had the most success tickling her chubby thighs, Amy’s thighs are still her most ticklish spot along with under her chin which also works on Stella to get a little gurgle. I also got her laughing yesterday by bonking her gently on the nose with the little giraffe rattle given to her by Russell, Ana and Milo. Poor kid is probably sick of me doing that to her now!

Amy is still alternating between gorgeous darling child and hideous and hard work but either I am getting used to it now or she really is more often happy and helpful because we are just getting on with things without too much shouting and losing of tempers, both hers and mine.

This blog post is hardly coherent, I think its best I sign off and go and have a sunday arvo lounge on the couch in front of the telly while Stella naps!
